Over the summer of 2019 the Honduran streets were overwhelmed with civil unrest and violent protests. These acts of resistance came in full force to denounce a corrupt president (Juan Orlando Hernandez). At first, protests started because the government was writing legislation that would completely privatize Health and Education. Civil unrest became even more violent after evidence released by the DEA and FBI incriminated Juan Orlando Hernandez, during the trail of his brother Tony Hernandez, who was found guilty of importing tons of cocaine from Honduras to the US from 2004-2016. Reports showed that Juan Orlando aided and protected drug-traffickers in his own country, while also taking bribes and profits to fund his campaigns and lavish lifestyle.
